20th Anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie

TMNTWe would be remiss if we didn’t report that it was 20 years ago today that those lovable Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made the leap from comic strip to big screen. Released on March 30, 1990, the live-action film was well received, opening in the #1 spot and eventually raking in a respectable $200 million worldwide.

The film, as you may already be aware, tells the story of four stealthy, super-turtles, each possessing mad fighting skills. When a group of criminals called the Foot Clan begins to terrorize the citizens of New York City, the quartet of vigilante turtles leaps into action, giving the Foot Control a run for their money, and saving the Big Apple from chaos.

Let’s take a look:

As we help Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael celebrate this special day, we thought you might have some of your own memories to share with us. Did you go see the film in the theater? Is it still a part of your DVD collection? Let us know about your love of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles over here at Retroland as we tip our hats to an awesome movie.

I’ve loved the Turtles since I was a wee tyke, we are talking 1987 starting with the Saturday morning cartoon and continuing now @ age 27. I picked up the Blu-Ray box set not to long ago and watch them fairly regularly. My name is Don, so I had a special connection to Donatello (even though Mikey was always my favorite).

Wow!! This was my favorite movie as a kid. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I watched it. I was a huge Turtle freak as a kid and I still am to this day. Raphael was my favorite because I loved his color and his sais. Now as an adult, I like him because I kind of identify with his hot-headed personality and his loner mentality even though for the most part I’m fairly easy going and I’m close to my family. TURTLE POWER!!
