On May 19, 1960, Walt Disney Productions released the heartwarming film, Pollyanna. The story of a happy-go-lucky orphan who tries to cheer an entire town with her optimism, Pollyanna wasn’t one of Disney’s more successful films at the time. Over the years, however, it gradually worked its way into people’s hearts – both for its simple charm and its wonderful cast. Today, it is rightfully considered a classic.
The film marks the Disney debut of actress Hayley Mills, who would go on to make another five films for the studio, including the beloved and oft-remade classic, The Parent Trap. In Pollyanna, a wonderful supporting cast (including Jane Wyman, Richard Egan, Karl Malden, and Bewitched’s Agnes Moorehead) surrounded Mills, each giving smile-worthy performances of their own.
Let’s take a look at a couple of entertaining scenes from the film:
Is Pollyanna on your list of childhood favorites? If so, make sure to tell us all about it in our comments section, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of this beloved Disney film.

i absolutely loved this film and still do.
Dear Eric,
I first saw”Pollyanna”at a summer camp in New Jersey
in 1965 that I would prefer to forget.
Despite the problems that camp created for me..I enjoyed
watching this classic Walt Disney movie drama.
I enjoyed the story of the little orphan girl..who was able
to see the positive side of life and gave the people of her
aunt’s town. A reason to get along with each other.
I was even lucky enough to meet the actress..who
played “Nancy” the housemaid and “Pollyanna”(Ms.Mills)
friend in the movie..Ms.Nancy Olsen in NYC back in the fall
of 1988.
( I had just finished doing an interview with Ms.Olsen’s husband
former recording co. exec Mr.Alan Livingston..the man who
really created”Bozo The Clown” and she came in to say
hello to her busband)
A sweet lady and an equally talented performer..
I’m just sorry that I didn’t get a chance to talk with her
about her work with Mr.Disney.
Thanks For Remembering “Pollyanna”,
Kevin S.Butler Formerlely”Nostalgia TV!”.
“Pollyanna”also featured a pre-”Get Smart” Edward Platt
(“The Chief Of Control”) and Kevin Corchran(Who wanted to
star in”Toby Tyler”for Mr.Disney that same year).
I would love to have this movie!
