Mystery Spots

Mystery Spots

No matter where you live, you probably aren’t too far away from one of the Mystery Spots dotting our landscape – one of those strange roadside attractions that seemingly defy the physical laws of science, particularly gravity. Water flows uphill, people’s height appears to change as they walk, and items such as a ball seemingly roll up a ramp.

Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Florida all have them, as do other cities around the world, such as Jerusalem and Quebec. Perhaps most visited is the one in Santa Cruz, California, which can be so busy during weekends that purchasing advanced tickets is highly recommended. Here’s a little glimpse of what you can expect to find there.

If you would like to find one of the mystery spots within close proximity to your location, there is a handy list over at Roadside America that should steer you in the right direction.

Did you stop at these roadside attractions in your childhood, perhaps during one of those infamous parental road trip vacations? Do you have one in your area you would like to recommend? Share your memories of Mystery Spots with us, as we pay tribute to these quirky, but oddly-entertaining tourist destinations.
