Odyssey

Odyssey

It's strange to fathom those dark ages prior to the advent of the home video game, but civilization waited until 1972, when we were forever changed by the release of the Odyssey. We owe our thanks to a man named Ralph Baer (who would later introduce us to a beloved electronic memory game called Simon). He was the mastermind that teamed with Magnavox to change the world forever and make home gaming the preferred recreational activity of children and adults alike. Continue reading...

Monster Magnet

Monster Magnet

Few toys possess the sheer animal magnetism as the Monster Magnet. First, there was the name. As any marketing executive worth his weight can tell you, include the word "monster" in the name of a toy and you are pretty much assured a hit - especially in 1964. But this wasn’t just about the name, it was about abilities - and this fierce little guy had plenty, making him a most attractive addition to any kid’s collection. Continue reading...

Bonkers

Bonkers!

For their considerably short existence, those little chewy candy squares known as Bonkers! made quite the impression. Some will remember their soft pliability, others their flavorful punch. And for anyone regularly watching television in the 80s, it was impossibly not to take notice of their humorous commercials that featured giant fruit dropping from the sky and landing on an unwitting bystander. Whatever the reason, they are a candy that remains sorely missed from legions of fans that still wonder whatever happened to their beloved Bonkers! Continue reading...

Sly-and-the-Family-Stone

Sly and the Family Stone

In the late 60s, perhaps the most positive change in the music industry was that age-old genre barriers were finally starting to crumble. The days of segregating the styles of rock, country, folk, soul and R&B were coming to an end and the result was an exciting new era of musical exploration. By infusing elements of pop, rock and psychedelica into a heavy R&B rhythmic foundation, the band created some of the most energetic and grooving hits of the era. And leading the charge in these defining times, was the creative talent of Sly Stone. Continue reading...

Galaga

Galaga

All the way back in 1978, millions of arcade aficionados got their first taste of civil defense experience by protecting the planet from those pesky Space Invaders. And like all good arcade games, competition would soon follow. The next year, Namco introduced Galaxian, a similar game with a few extra bells and whistles. Then, in 1981, they followed up with a sequel, one that would go on to become a certified hit in the video game world. Thy name was Galaga. Continue reading...

The Outsiders

The Outsiders

Based on the popular 1967 book written by fifteen-year-old author, S.E. And much to the delight of young girls everywhere, a cast of virtually every rising teen idol imaginable was assembled to melt their hearts and jerk the tears from their pretty faces.
