With Taito’s 10-Yard Fight, the quarterback duties fell solely into your hands. But don’t be deceived; these ten yards were most certainly hard-fought, and the clock was quickly winding down as you attempted to get your team upfield. That was a often daunting task if you hoped to achieve the status of appearing on the top scorer’s list.

The battle began at the high school level. Once the opposing team kicked off, you could try to return it for a touchdown, but that was an unlikely achievement. Rather, it likely meant preparing yourself for a yard-by-yard fight. The quarterback of course had the option of running the ball himself or going for a forward or sideways pass (each controlled by its very own button.) Have that pass intercepted and you were now set back 20 yards while an unmerciful clock continued to tick, but if your pass was successful, you were well on your way. And just like the NFL, you could always run the ball out of bounds and momentarily stop that clock from progressing.

Should the coveted touchdown be achieved, you had the option of kicking for the extra point or attempting a two-point conversion. It mattered little as the next level of gamplay awaited you regardless. From the high school level, you moved on to the college ranks, then up the ladder to pro, and finally to the uber-challenging Super Bowl level. Get through all of these levels and a place on that high scorer list might just be yours, as well as some well-deserved recognition from your game-playing colleagues. And even if you never quite hit that milestone, 10-Yard Fight still brought hours of football enjoyment to the many fans of this well-remembered game.
