Saying no to drugs was never again this much fun or this violent. Kids needed an incentive to send the drug-dealing lowlifes of the world packing and NARC gave them just that. The gamed hit arcades in 1988, shocking parents and delighting youngsters with its graphic depictions of violence, mayhem and death.

The player assumed the role of a police officer in a futuristic world plagued by drug dealers, kingpins and junkies. Your mission was to arrest or kill as many bad guys as possible, ultimately storming the headquarters of the evil Mr. Big, head of the K.R.A.K. criminal empire.

Players had a choice of two characters, Max Force and the Hit Man who packed a mean arsenal of machine guns and rocket launchers in their crusade against K.R.A.K. The side-scrolling action took the two heroes on a journey through abandoned warehouses, dark alleys and city street meeting up with every kind of scum imaginable. Pushers, mutant cockroaches and killer clowns stood between you and Mr. Big. It was kill or be killed.

No, wait, it wasn't. The game actually awarded players more points for arresting criminals (where do you put the handcuffs on a mutant cockroach?) without killing them. Then again, the game made the arresting process so time-consuming that players ultimately chose to blast away the bad guys just to save themselves all the paperwork. Draw your own real world parallels here.

Game controls included a joystick and four buttons for jumping, crouching, firing the machine gun and firing the surface-to-air missiles. These guys were serious about their war on drugs, yo.
