Release History:

1960 - Fun Phone
Arcade game designers Bally didn't discriminate against youngsters who wanted to enjoy the fun and dazzle of an arcade just as much as older kids. They produced Fun Phone in 1960, specifically for the 3 to 12-year old group and their small allowances.

The game looked like a red payphone and after dropping a coin in the slot, the little tykes could pick up the receiver and listen to a variety of fairy tales, rousing cowboy stories or a song by Bozo the Clown. Following in a long line of toy phones, Fun Phone took advantage of the little ones' fascination with the gabbing gadget and made the shortest gamers feel like they had important calls to make and receive. There were also several pre-recorded jokes and funny anecdotes and the kids had all the time in the world to sit and listen.

Fun Phone was marketed to business as a 'trade stimulator,' much like coin-operated pony rides and guaranteed a steady clientele of kiddies. Any nostalgic collector would love to have one of these beauties gracing the foyer.
