The idea of aliens living on other planets and visiting us here on Earth has fascinated people for decades. In the ‘90’s, interest in these “close encounters” peaked with a barrage of entertainment such as the film Men in Black and TV shows like The X-Files. As always, the long tentacles of pop culture reached out and aliens took over fashion as well.
Wide-eyed, teardrop-shaped alien faces adorned an array of t-shirts, baseball caps, accessories – pretty much anything. These little green men were a fashion fad for a good part of the decade, and the mantra “I Want To Believe” was showcased with the alien face of what you believed in. The fad faded by the end of the decade, but the believers still make their ideas known on the pages of supermarket tabloids. Because, you know – “they’re out there.”
