I love Stevie Nicks and her style.  More »
Girls have always liked dressing up. Putting on mom’s high heels and jewelry, playing around with mom’s lipstick. Costumes and whimsy are an innate part of girls growing up, and light chiffon blowing in the wind perfectly fit little girls fancies of pretty dress-up.

The ‘60’s were about newfound freedom and self-expression, and fashion reflected that philosophy. Women wanted to portray the shattering of conventions with whimsy and comfort – and angel sleeves were in. Influenced the a gypsy-style wardrobe, angel (or bell) sleeves were narrow at the top and gradually got wider at the bottom – kind of like bell-bottoms for the arms. Long and graceful, they were usually made from light, flowing fabrics – chiffon, lace, or macramé – and they streamed like wings from the shoulders.

Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks was a huge icon for the gypsy chic style, and her fans copied her flowing sleeves and light, airy dresses. Pretty and graceful never felt so rock ‘n’ roll.
