MEMORY:

Yeah, I remember the "layered look" thing, too. It was in about the time as the "big look": blousy, oversized clothing - especially blousons - for women. The all-in-one dresses I remember were voluminous and lightweight, what was called at the time a "tent dress," falling to the lower calf and with drawstring wrists and matching fabric strips to use at the waist. The skirt length could be set wherever you wanted it, and the top part could be wrapped tight or, more fashionably, puffed out over the tie-belt for a full, peasant blouson look. I also saw women wear them without wrapping, tying, or belting, just the full, tent-dress shape, drawstrings pulled in tight at the wrists to create little ruffles under the bishop sleeves. Looked great with full-shafted 70s boots or high-heeled, ankle-wrapping sandals.
