Baseball Caps
Baseball caps are the ultimate head accessory – they look good on everybody, they’re one size fits all, and you can wear them frontways, backways, and sideways.

The first baseball caps were worn by the New York Knickerbockers in 1849 – and they were made out of straw. When the National Baseball League was organized in 1876, the official uniforms included a new hat – the style of baseball cap we know today. A.G. Spaulding, the manager of the Chicago White Sox, dressed his team with caps of different colors, and is credited with starting the team colors tradition we now have.

The front bill of the baseball cap was designed to keep the sun out of player’s eyes when they were in game so that they could clearly see the ball. The style worked well, and team logos were soon emblazoned on the caps. The look graced everyone from major league players to the local Little League teams.

During the 70’s, trucker-style baseball caps came into vogue with fans of CB radios and BJ and the Bear. This alternative style consisted of mesh backs with plastic sizing strips and foamy printed fronts.

In the sports-crazed ‘90’s the baseball cap was everywhere – from ghetto gangs to suburban housewives. The crowd dictated the style – rappers wore them sideways and high on the head, frat boys wore them backwards, and girls wore them straight ahead, with pony tails tucked out over the adjustable headband.

Like Mom’s apple pie, baseball caps are the ultimate American accessory and a classic look that never goes out of style.
