In the disco era, style was just as important for men as for women, and that certainly was true in the area of hairstyles. Nobody epitomized the male disco hairdo more than the kings of the dance floor, the Bee Gees.
The full-styled cuts of the brothers Gibb were the male equivalent of the Farrah Fawcett “wings” look for girls. Men tended to their manes with a back pocket hairbrush, a bottle of Aqua Net, and careful finger manipulation. Hair was long and full, brushed back for the complete effect.
Maurice, Robin, and Barry were the official Bee Gees, but their brother Andy, as a solo artist, also maintained a sexy ‘do. His style was a little more feathered and flirty than Barry’s, who, as the lead singer of the Bee Gees, sported an impressive, lion-like hair style.
The sudden boy-obsession with hair certainly made for rushed mornings in the bathroom, when both brothers and sisters had a good chunk of grooming to take care of before school.
