MEMORIES:
In the anything-goes ‘80’s, bubble skirts were that decade’s version of Judy Jetson’s futuristic dress. Unfortunately, cartoon girls look better in the bubble silhouette than real girls.
The look was created by designer Christian LaCroix as part of his 1985 fashion line. Appearing in both short and long lengths, bubble skirts poofed out from the waist, went full around the hips, and cinched back in at the hem. It was a popular look for prom dresses, but was a little too formal – or weird – for everyday wear.
Bubble skirts didn’t hang around very long. The bottom-heavy style made girls look a little too roly-poly – not a good look in any era.
