FANS:
MEMORIES:
Perhaps you wanted a little football to let everyone know you were dating the star quarterback of the high school football team. Perhaps you were a cheerleader and wanted to adorn your bracelet with a miniature megaphone, complete with engraved school letters. Perhaps your tastes were more towards the rebellious, a rock and roller at heart. A little Elvis charm or silver 45 record was just what the fashion doctor ordered. Throughout the 50s and 60s, a charm bracelet was simply a must-have item in the fashion wardrobe of girls everywhere.
With the enormous popularity of charm bracelets in those early decades, dress designers even created blouses with a special ¾ sleeve to help girls proudly display their personalized jewelry to all of their friends. In the latter part of the 20th century, their popularity waned for a bit, but enjoyed a resurgence of popularity around the year 2000. More recently, charms of little skulls, crosses and swords were dangling from wrists everywhere, thanks to the popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, and today, vintage charms from yesteryear can command a respectable price from collectors.
Everyone loves the ability to offer a glimpse of who they are and what they like, and for over half a century, charm bracelets have delivered the dangly goods – a fashion statement that can be best described as, well, charming.
