Who likes short shorts? The collective “we” like short shorts, and perhaps never quite as much as when Daisy Duke wore them on The Dukes of Hazzard. In fact, the viewers liked them so much, they christened them “Daisy Dukes” in tribute to the sassy lass with the never-ending legs.

When Catherine Bach, who played Daisy Duke on the series, first painted on a pair of skintight shorts, she conjured up recollections of the days of the beloved hot pants from the previous decade. Her particular apparel was simply a pair of cutoff jeans, strings and all. Clothing manufacturers cleaned them up a bit with a neat hem but they were still seductive enough for parents to admonish their teenagers with a hearty “over my dead body!” Of course, tell a teenager not to do something and the braver ones will immediately discard the advice, which in the case of Daisy Dukes, many did. The allure was just too great – if one could stop the General Lee in its tracks with a simple pair of short shorts, surely the high school boys would be a piece of cake.

Looking back, they don’t seem quite as risqué as they seemed in a more innocent time – especially in comparison to the 90s version the resurged thanks to the song “Dazzey Duks” by rap artist, Duice. With about a third of the fabric contained in an original pair of Daisy Dukes, these left absolutely nothing to the imagination. Daisy may have had a seductive streak, but she still retained a level of class and one can only assume that she wouldn’t have been caught dead in the fashions that evolved from her skimpy yet stylish cutoffs.
