The gaucho was the cowboy of Argentina, and the traditional pants he wore exploded onto the fashion scene in the 70’s. Gaucho pants, worn with Dingo boots and suede jackets, became a hot look in the Southwestern-obsessed decade.
Gauchos were styled with knee-length, very wide legs, so that they almost resembled a skirt (or a skort, in this case.) They were made from corduroy, a popular fabric of the time, as well as plain cotton or denim. They kept the traditional Southwest look by using a color palette of natural browns, beiges, and oranges. They portrayed a look that was both cowboy-inspired and feminine, and lassoed up a lot of fans in the 70’s.
