For kids who couldn’t afford the top of the line designer jeans, there was always Gitano. Sold in K-Mart, Gitanos featured the designer jean cut, including the requisite embroidered logo across the back pocket. Their less expensive price tag was a bonus for moms as well. But in the world of designer jeans, how much you paid meant more than how you looked, and even though Gitanos had the right cut, they didn’t have the cache of Jordache, Sergio Valente and Gloria Vanderbilt. If you didn’t have a horse, a bull, or a swan on your butt, it didn’t matter than your jeans fit well – you just weren’t cool.

Still, Gitano held their own, keeping the emphasis on good fitting jeans. They introduced the P.S. (Personal Size) line that offered jean in a variety of styles for women of all shapes, so you could fit into designer jeans whether you were short, tall, curvy, or straight. And once the penchant for all things expensively designer had run it’s course, Gitanos were still there – and still are there today – to offer women a stylish fit at a great price.

Gitano was acquired by Fruit of the Loom in 1994, and the company invigorated the brand by sponsoring Shania Twain’s 'Perfect Fit' tour in 1998. Now Shania knows what girls of the 80’s have always known. For a perfect fit at a perfect price, Gitano is the way to go.
