MEMORY:During the early 80s, it was popular to bad-mouth the 70s among my cooler-than-thou friends, and a standard fashion-police putdown went something like, "She might as well have been wearing a lime green polyester jumpsuit!" However, while the flared jumpsuit style popularized by Yves St. Laurent in 1968 might have seemed passe, retro/futuristic designers like Thierry Mugler had introduced narrow-leg, shoulder-padded jumpsuits by the early 80s. A friend of mine commonly wore one around 1981/82. It was in an army green mercerized cotton with shoulder pads, asymmetric zippers, and narrow legs that she tucked into flat, calf-length black boots. She wore it with gold, leaf-shaped dangle earrings and her usual heavy, Siouxsie Sioux-style makeup and splotchily-bleached Siouxsie Sioux-cut hair. She was beautiful.Gold Stars: 1 GOLD STARS:RELATED ITEMS: |
