There are sneakers and there are athletic shoes. The former is primarily for leasure and play but the latter is more demanding. If those feet are going to stay comfy through the rigors of running, they need to fit perfectly, as well as have excellent arch support. And for decades now, real runners have trusted the name, New Balance.

New Balance got its start in 1906, as the New Balance Arch Company. They primarily manufactured arch supports and orthopedic footwear. By the 50s, however, runners were turning to New Balance to design custom running shoes for them, an area in which the company had a proven track record. Word quickly spread and the list of runners wanting specially designed shoes was growing by the day and accounted for almost all of the company’s business. By 1972, New Balance was sold to James S. Davis and, at the time of his purchase, the company only employed an astounding six people, who were capable of producing 30 pairs of Trackstar running shoes each day.

The company would need to grow, and grow it did. Today, New Balance churns out many more than thirty shoes a day and has a reputation as being the best fitting running shoe on the market, thanks to their wide range of sizes and widths. There is a shoe for just about every foot and New Balance remains the industry leader in performance oriented athletic footwear.
