Certain dangers accompany riding a bike in loose fitting clothes that dangle closely to the bicycle chain. An unexpected merger of the two and you might just be picking yourself up from the ground, ego and knees wounded for all to see. Various techniques were employed to minimize the risk, whether it be tucking the pant legs into the socks or using a rubber band to keep them close to the leg. That is until pedal pushers came along. Finally, you didn’t have to take your life into your own hands just to take a spin on the Windstar cruiser.

Short-legged pants had already found their place in the world of fashion and many a long pant leg were rolled and cuffed above the ankle for a bit of stylish flair. Pedal Pushers made that extra step unnecessary, providing a length that was just a tad shorter than the popular capris of the time. They were pants made to accommodate an active lifestyle and were welcomed by women everywhere.

And when the 90s rolled around, and short pants found themselves in vogue again, all of the old favorites, the capris, cigarette pants, clamdiggers, and yes, the pedal pushers were all revived for another stroll down memory lane – or perhaps a nice bike ride that wouldn’t leave one picking themselves up from the pavement.
