Many a kid has faced the wrath of an angry mom for committing the sin of playing in their “good” clothes. One can only scrub out so many grass stains, thanks to an impromptu game of tag on the way home from school before drastic measures are introduced. And one such measure was the playsuit.

Virtually indestructible, playsuits were one-piece wonders, coveralls that could endure even the most rigorous demands of everything from ‘kick the can’ to an old fashioned roll in the mud. Finally mothers could enjoy a little fun time of their own, their days of vigorously scrubbing stains a thing of the past. Well, at least in theory – kids still had to reign in their boundless energy all the way home from school until they could change into more suitable attire, and that just wasn’t always possible. But at least playsuits were a step in the right direction.
