Ladies’ hairstyles could create looks that were inherently boyish, like angular bobs and short crops. But on the other end of the spectrum, the ultra-feminine look was represented by the soft fall of curly ringlets. Whether curled into actual hair, or enhanced by hairpieces, nothing said pretty girlyness like old-fashioned ring curls.

Women could use entire wigs, or just clip-on ringlets to achieve the look. Curls would hang down from the sides or back of the head, a la Shirley Temple. This soft, girlish look could transport you back to childhood – or the previous century.
