MEMORIES:
It was all about fitting in in high school, and a big part of finding your clique was evaluating what kind of music the other kids listened to. That was easily identifiable with the concert tee.
Going to the concert was only part of being cool – you had to get the tee shirt and wear it to school to prove you were there. If you sported your AC/DC or Led Zeppelin shirt, other kids knew you fell into the acceptably cool category. Even better, if your shirt was worn or tattered by having gone to aforementioned concert years ago, than your cool factor was raised exponentially. You were a fan before everybody else was. That “Led Zeppelin I” shirt was valuable.
The bands changed over the years, but kids still liked to wear their musical loyalties on their shirts. Whether it was Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, or Nirvana, you could know upfront that this person had good – or not so good – taste in music.
Classic rock concert tees from the 70’s made a revival in the early 2000’s when ‘70’s vintage came back in style. Now, even if you hadn’t been born yet when Led Zeppelin was rocking arenas, you could still make a fashion statement.
