In the 80s, if it was plastic and it fit around your wrist, why not wear it as a bracelet? That’s what happened with spring bracelets, basically no more than a springy phone cord wrapped around your wrist.

 

You could get them in the thick phone cord variety, or the thin slinky type. Both kinds came in an array of bright neon colors (it was the 80s, after all), and they were fun to play with by pulling them. Unfortunately, consistent pulling often resulted in a lack of springiness, leaving you with nothing but a useless piece of plastic. Ah, well. On to the next fad.
