Fashion was full of Italian romanticism during the 1950s after Audrey Hepburn starred in the film Roman Holiday. The look was called “Italian chic” and featured tight black cigarette pants, a short hairstyle called the “Italian cut,” and crisp cotton shirts with stand up collars that beautifully framed the face.

Rather than the double fold of a traditional collar, these new collars were designed as “half-collars,” with a small band in the back that supported the upward slope of the points. This sexy style was perfect for fashionable ladies who liked to acknowledge their sexuality, rather than the more traditional look of circle skirts and sweater sets.
