MEMORIES:
Before cotton lycra leggings, the only way to achieve a smooth look from your waist down to your ankle was with stirrup pants. Named after the foot handles on a horse’s saddle, stirrup pants included a piece of fabric on the bottom that slipped under the foot and kept the pants pulled down straight.
The style first became popular with the beats in the 50s, combined with baggy “sloppy joe” sweaters. The same look came back again in the 80s.
