It is no secret that sporting apparel has often worked itself into the fashion world over the years. And one sport that was borrowed heavily from in the 60s and 70s was tennis. Girls embraced the look of flirty little tennis skirts, both on the court and off, adorned with colorful pom-poms and accentuated with a sun visor to complete the look.

The popularity of Tennis in America was undeniable and the crisp clean style of tennis whites, including cable-knit sweaters and white pants or skirts, were the symbol of a life of privilege. Eventually tennis became a game that even the common person could enjoy, and the styles would also cross over as well, becoming a favorite in the world of female fashion.

In the 60s, where the miniskirt ruled supreme, girls embraced the tennis skirt, wearing it as outerwear, often with a pair of short shorts worn underneath. Pleated skirts and flat skorts were just the thing to wear when one wanted to convey a sporty active lifestyle.
