Caramel Apple Pops

You’d think the candy making geniuses of the planet would have figured this one out a bit sooner.  What could be a more fitting Halloween treat than fall’s favorite fruit-filled fix: caramel-coated candied apples.  Of course, making enough of these large, sticky beasts to handle a herd of trick or treaters is a little above the production capabilities of most kitchens.  So … why not a lollipop?  That’s what the fine folks at Tootsie asked themselves in 1995 when they finally introduced Caramel Apple Pops – and the people responded with cheers of gooey delight.

Caramel Apple pops are pretty straightforward.  A hard and tart green apple-flavored sucker coated in soft and smooth caramel.  Though not a precise replica of autumn’s famed dipped-apples, they are close enough as far as candy lovers are concerned. And, even though Caramel Apple Pops are actually available year-round, most grocery outlets don’t start carrying them until September, in anticipation of the Halloween candy rush.  But no worry, even if they’re hard to find now, just know that once autumn rolls around and you’re peeling the little green wrapper back in juicy anticipation, the wait will have seemed entirely worthwhile.
