Don’t tell the dentist, but as the legions of Charleston Chew fans most certainly know, there are few things better than knowing you’ve got one in the freezer.  Okay, so maybe eating it is even better.  Just take it out, whack it against a table and you’ve got chocolate-covered bits and bites of Charleston Chew to chew and chew upon!  Delish!

For fans of history and pop culture, Charleston Chews are edible history.  The chocolate covered vanilla nougat candy bar was introduced in 1922, and was named for the dance craze that was sweeping parties and dance floors across the country, the Charleston.  From the first moment refrigerators came with freezers, Charleston Chews were thrown in for an extra icy measure.  In 1958, fruit and chocolate fans got their wish with the launch of strawberry and chocolate nougat flavors in their Charleston Chews.

Charleston Chew is still easily found in candy shops today.  Perhaps they’re not clamored over like the latest sour this and the super-ooey-gooey that, perhaps there are people out there who haven’t had the fortune of a sweet bite of Charleston Chew.  Do them a favor, pick one up, toss it in the freezer and show them the good side of life.
