This was definitely corner store candy. Old school sweets at its finest!  More »

Though there may be Appleheads, Grapeheads, Cherryheads, Melonheads and even Orangeheads eager to tantalize our taste buds, they cannot - nay, they do not compare with the tart and tasty power of the original Lemonheads.  Created in 1962 by the Ferrara Pan Candy Company, they tasted like lemon drops, but had a chewy sweet center, similar to their candy cousin, the Red Hot.

Lemonheads remain quite popular, so much so that their manufacturer recently went through the trouble of re-naming all the other Ferrara Pan candies to fit in with the beloved Lemonhead theme.  Made using the cold-panned process, spinning the little pieces of candy around until they reach the right size, right color and right flavor, Ferrara Pan makes around 500 million of the little Lemonheads each and every year.  Polished to a gleaming shine, Lemonheads are boxed up and distributed to their legions of fans everywhere, eager to pucker blissfully to the sweet tart taste that could only come from a Lemonhead.
