Since 1935, the year Nabisco introduced the wonder-cracker Ritz, people have piled on a plethora of goodies onto the puffy wafer – everything from peanut butter to cheeses, veggies and meat.  Kids at cafeteria tables around the country could often be found opening their lunchboxes with a baggie full of Ritz along with a variety of complements, so it made sense for the company to produce a new product for their line of snack goods, Ritz Bitz, meant to compete with their cracker competitors who were producing lines of cracker sandwiches.

Ritz Bitz initially came in classic flavors, like “Cheese” and “Peanut Butter”, but has since expanded to include sweeter versions, such as “Peanut Butter and Jelly” and “S’mores.”  For a brief time in the early 1990s, and then again at the turn of the century, Ritz Bitz came in a pizza flavor.  The ready-to-go treats were perfect for lunch pails, and even great as after-school snacks that didn’t require preparation, as many moms and dads figured out.  While competitors have tried to create the buzz the poppable tiny sandwiches created, none have come close to long-lasting popularity of the Ritz Bitz cracker.
