“Once you pop…”

When it comes to the potato chip world, Pringles doesn’t even make the list.  Yep, you read that correctly, not on the list.  Of course, that’s because Pringles aren’t potato chips at all, they’re potato crisps.  There’s something special and magical about Pringles that has set them apart since their introduction in 1968.  Labeled crisps because they’re made out of potato dough instead of cut fresh from potatoes, Pringles came out just after the Summer of Love in 1967 – a time when such precise uniformity wasn’t hip, cool, or desired in any way.  Even in later years, Pringles has gone counter to the norm.  In our current climate of micro-branding, Pringles proudly wears the Proctor & Gamble name on its cylindrical can, selling by the millions in the process.

While perhaps the first memories with Pringles have come and gone with the winds of change, almost everyone can remember sitting back with a can, munching on them until a finger or two hit the bottom of the canister.  It’s moments like those that many have been glad the crisps weren’t poured out into a dish – sometimes it’s better not to know how many went down the hatch.

The 80s had it right when commercials touted a “fever for the flavor of Pringles.”  With flavors like their plain, but mysteriously addictive Original flavor, their cheesy and pleasing Cheez Ums, perennial favorite Sour Cream & Onion, the sweet and tangy Barbeque, the cheesy pizza-tinged Pizza-licious, as well as the many other flavors that have come and gone throughout the years, many a person has had to work through that fever.

Today, Pringles offers Pringles Minis, perfect for quick bite-sized snacking, and Pringle Prints, which have trivia questions to cure any idea of lunchtime boredom that might come along.  But don’t fret, Pringles still come in their classic big tube, as well as smaller tubes perfect for packing into any lunch (or stowing away in a car).  As always, with Pringles…

“… the fun don’t stop!”
