Soooooooooooo yummy!!!

Though today you can find their tasty baked goods just about anywhere in the United States, Entenmann’s was strictly an east coast favorite for over a century, delighting many a happy mouth, morning after morning.  The history of this famous brand takes us back in time, before the days of mega marts, when young immigrants from around the world were looking to make a go of it in America.

In 1898, just after moving to the United States from Germany, William Entenmann opened a bakery in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York.  He took his cakes, breads and rolls around the neighborhood in a horse drawn carriage, offering his wares to the locals.  In the process, he built a reputation for quality and flavor that would keep customers coming back for more, even after he moved his operation to the greener pastures of Long Island.  As the family business continued to grow, their line of pastries and baked goods continued to rise in popularity, and soon their bakery was getting orders from such high society folks as the Morgans and the Vanderbilts.

In 1951, after the return home of the three Entenmann sons (who were all off fighting in the Korean War,) the company began to place their focus toward supermarkets and convenience shopping.  Soon, Entenmann’s line of goods developed a package easily marketable to grocery stores and they upped their production capabilities considerably.  Before long, Entenmann’s pastries could be found in the other states of the tri-state area, Connecticut and New Jersey.  And over the last half a century, Entenmann’s has finally found its way onto supermarket shelves across the country, from coast to coast and from top to bottom.

Today, they’re owned by George Weston Limited, but the cakes are much the same as they were 50 years ago.  So go ahead and grab a donut, slice off a little of that loaf cake, or warm up a Danish for breakfast; Entenmanns’s has been proving for generations that they’re synonymous with quality, and as the company attests, “they make every day a special occasion.”
