Few things really get to qualify as a “perfect” snack food, though Combos might come close.  They’re definitely on the top lists for favorite almost-forgotten snack items.  If it weren’t for the trips down the snack food aisle, or giving into the temptation at the local convenience store, well, Combos might have been forgotten entirely.  Oh, Combos, road trip companion and snack to cheer on our favorite sports teams with, you have been a friend, indeed.

Invented sometime around the mid-1970s, the bite-sized snack features a crunchy exterior, most often with savory fillings like cheddar cheese, nacho cheese, or pepperoni pizza-flavored… you guessed it…cheese.   For those hankering to satisfy their sweet tooth, peanut butter-filled pretzels were once readily available (though nowadays, they seem to have completely disappeared.)  Perfectly poppable, the little snacks have the flavor and texture combination to really satisfy a craving.  Combos were always a pleasant surprise to find in your school lunch box.  A baggie full of these would bring a smile, whether eaten or not.  After all, they made a great bartering tool.

For over three decades, Combos have been the combination set to satisfy – and their crunch and zest will hopefully continue to delight for many years to come. A world without Combos just wouldn’t feel the same.
