Once is never enough for those crime fighting ninja turtles. Cowabunga, dude!
Only a year after the enormously successful first film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze oozed into theaters. In this installment, turtles Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michaelangelo are back, living in reporter April O’Neil’s apartment (played in this movie by a different actress than in the first) while they hunt for a new sewer to hide in. It’s there they meet Keno, the pizza delivery boy who’s a martial artist in training. Keno becomes the turtles’ sidekick, as they all learn about the newest threat to their city. It seems that Professor Jordan Perry, the creator of the ooze that turned the turtles into the half human beings they are today has been kidnapped by resident bad guy Shredder (who, apparently, didn’t die in the last movie) to use the remaining ooze for his own sinister plans.
Shredder has re-organized his teen crime gang, the Foot Clan, and Raphael encourages Keno to join as an undercover agent. Meanwhile, Shredder has forced Professor Perry to use his ooze to create a monster from a German shepherd puppy named Rahzar and a baby snapping turtle named Tokka, resulting in a pretty unintelligent mutant.
Keno helps the Turtles find Shedder’s lair, and a series of slapstick adventures follow, including a journey back into the sewers, a visit to a disco where rapper Vanilla Ice is performing, and a fight with the mutant Supershredder, played by WCW superstar Kevin Nash.
The movie’s delivery of fun and irreverent adventures made this second Turtles’ installment another hit. In fact, it was justification for a third Turtles movie in 1993.
