Release History:

1981 - Caveman
Ex-Beatle, Ringo Starr, got some prehistoric playtime on the big screen in Caveman, a simple and silly romp through a time when “you had to beat it to eat it.” Yeah, that was about as complex as the concept got. But for those that didn’t require a thought-provoking storyline and engaging dialog to keep them entertained, Caveman was blast from the past that audiences from all ages could enjoy.

The beautiful cavegirl Lana is the object of affection for a simple caveguy, Atouk. Unfortunately for Atouk, Lana is the property of fearsome tribe leader Tonda. Wise to Atouk’s intentions, Tonda gives Atouk the boot from the tribe and he is left to fend for himself in the wilderness. Soon, he pals up with Lar and Tala and together they form a tribe of their own where the group encounters a dinosaur with a narcotic berry habit, a monsterous mosquito, and plenty of other prehistoric perils. But they also find comraderie, and together with his new pals, they manage to invent fire and even bang out a little music, thanks to Ringo’s percussive prowess.

With dinosaurs no more scary than Dino, and plenty of prehistoric poop jokes, this was a film that even the easily frightened youngsters could enjoy without covering their eyes. And since not one word is ever spoken in the film, other than a improvised language that is credited to Ringo, all attention could be placed on the comical visuals. For those who liked their movies to be a cerebral experience, Caveman probably wasn’t up their alley, but for the rest of the world who didn’t take their cinematic experiences sooo seriously, Caveman was a grunting good time that didn’t take itself all that seriously either.
