Release History:
1979 - C.H.O.M.P.S.
Ralph Norton is watching his home security business dwindle to nothing, thanks to a rash of local crimes. Desperate to save his failing business, he turns to his employee, a young inventor named Brian Foster to find a way to take a bite out of crime and Brian’s solution is a Canine Home Protection System, or C.H.O.M.P.S. for short. The ultimate in crime fighting technology, C.H.O.M.P.S. is a robotic rover who is the perfect pooch for the job.
When a rival businessman, Mr. Gibbs, get wind of this police puppy, he decides to steal the invention for his own company and sends forth a double agent and two inept accomplices to put the competition out of business and kidnap man’s best bionic friend. Master Brian, Norton’s daughter Casey and the furry and fearless C.H.O.M.P.S. will have to join forces to save the day and bring these conniving criminals to justice.
With a story written by Joseph Barbera, C.H.O.M.P.S. had equal doses of silliness and science fiction, making it irresistible to children of all ages. Sure, it didn’t quite reach the levels of popularity as the other offerings of this celebrated team of animators, but it had a dog - which, as anyone can tell you, is the most time-tested, surefire way to win the affection of a kid’s heart that Hollywood has ever come up with.
