If the first movie didn’t foster enough kindness to rid the world of its ills, perhaps a sequel would do the trick. Thanks to the overwhelming popularity among toddler-age children, Nelvana Productions responded to continued demand with a sequel, The Care Bears Movie II. With an all new collection of songs that only a kid could love and some charming new characters, a world lacking in kindness was one step closer to a cure.

Christy is a young camper spending her days at summer camp. Yearning to be the camp champ, she proceeds to make a pack with a shadowy sinister figure called Dark Heart, who is more than willing to fulfill her wishes as long as she helps him capture the Care Bears. She complies and soon the camp is rampant with greed, jealousy, and selfishness.

Unbeknownst to Dark Star, however, is the fact that two of the bears, True Heart and Noble Heart, have evaded capture. It is up to them to save the bears and the rest of the world from this onslaught of negativity, and perhaps even inject a little kindness into Dark Star along the way.

Once again geared toward very young audiences, The Care Bears II followed the tried and true formula of the original, filling the screen with charming images and age-friendly musical numbers. Kids ate it up, and it wasn’t long before another sequel, The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland, was released – reminding the world yet again that caring is just about the best thing one can do. Perhaps someday the world will heed this advice.
