Release History:

1973 - Charlotte's Web
From the mind of author, E.B. White came this touching animated feature about the tale of a pig and the spider that saved him from becoming dinner, in the timeless 1973 musical classic, Charlotte’s Web.

The story surrounds a piglet named Wilbur who has the misfortune of being sold from his home, the New England farm of Homer Zuckerman, to a neighbor who had more sinister, more appetizing plans for the petrified porker. When he encounters and befriends a spider named Charlotte, she becomes his confidante, his surrogate mother of sorts. And she quickly weaves a plan to save Wilbur from the dinner table. With her web-making prowess, she constructs a series of messages such as “terrific,” and “some pig” across the doorframe of Wilbur’s home, and in the process, captures the attention of an amazed population who flock to catch a glimpse of “Zuckerman’s Famous Pig.” Wilbur’s new found celebrity status serves to keep him from being served at the dinner table, and he finds himself traveling to the county fair. But Charlotte’s fate is put in jeopardy by her selfless acts of compassion.

With an all-star cast that included Debbie Reynolds, Henry Gibson, Agnes Moorehead, and the irrepressible Paul Lynde, Charlotte’s Web did justice to the book it was based upon and quickly became a timeless classic. The music was provided by the legendary Sherman Brothers, Richard M. and Robert B., the same folks that gave the world the music for Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and, of course, the song that sticks relentlessly in the minds of millions of visitors to Disneyland every year, “It’s a Small World.” Both poignant and heart-wrenching, Charlotte’s Web is a beautiful tale of sacrifice, love and friendship that endures and enchants to this day.
