Release History:

1995 - A Goofy Movie
After many years of supporting roles, Disney dog Goofy finally earned a spot on the marquis with 1995’s A Goofy Movie. Disney Channel’s program Goof Troop was a television success, and the studio decided to take Goofy to the big screen.

In the film, Goofy’s son, Max, thinks is father is tragically uncool.  Max pursues his own hip factor by trying to impress cute classmate Roxanne with his musical skills at a concert. Principal Mazur is not impressed however; he calls Goofy to the school for a parent/principal conference.

Goofy feels the best way to improve his relationship with Max is to go on a fishing trip together. Max is horrified at the inherent dorkiness of this endeavor, and tells Roxanne that he’s actually going with his dad to see pop star Powerline in concert, and he’ll wave to her in the TV cameras from the audience. Then it’s off on a fishing adventure, complete with encounters with Elvis and Bigfoot. Meanwhile, Max keeps trying to fulfill his promise to Roxanne with the concert.

A Goofy Movie was released only two months before Disney blockbuster Pocahontas, but still managed to be a respectable hit. It was followed by a direct-to-video sequel in 2000, called An Extremely Goofy Movie.
