In the original film, Home Alone, young Kevin’s guilt-ridden mom assures her son that he will never, ever be neglected again. That is, at least, until the box office receipts started pouring in and kids across America demanded a sequel to one of the most beloved, box-office smashes of all time. It was time to get a little neglectful of poor Kevin again.

This time, the Big Apple would be Kevin’s sadistic stomping ground in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. As luck would have it, Kevin’s family decided to go on yet another family outing (you would have thought they would have learned their lesson) and this time Kevin actually makes it to the airport, much to the relief of mom. But, a family vacation to Miami just wasn’t in the cards for young Kevin, as he absent-mindedly follows a man that looks like his father aboard an airliner headed to New York City. Meanwhile, the family doesn’t realize their shortcomings until they have safely arrived in Miami.

Kevin makes it to New York just fine, and is the proud possessor of his father’s seemingly un-maxable credit card. Using that same cunning ingenuity and charm from the first film, he manages to check himself into the posh Plaza Hotel and use dad’s card for all sorts of fun. Room service delivers an endless supply of sweets, the toy stores of Manhattan become his playground, but soon enough, Kevin starts growing bored of his unchecked freedom and instead, begins soul-searching. He befriends a lady living on the cold streets of New York who has a remarkable way with pigeons and it seems that all is turning out well for the pint-sized refugee – until he spots his worst nightmare, the two criminals from the first movie, who have recently been released from prison. He overhears their plot to rob some of the toy stores in the area and is called into action again, to defend the toys from two of the biggest idiots the crime world has ever produced. A barrage of booby traps is right around the corner, proving once again they are not his worst enemy, he is theirs.

And once again, audiences lined up in record numbers to watch Kevin take a whack or three at the bumbling bad guys, for everyone enjoys a little revenge around holiday time. 1992’s Home Alone 2 would proceed to become one of the biggest grossing movies of the year and make Macaulay Culkin an even bigger star. Unfortunately, he would also grow too big, size-wise to appear in the next sequel and would be replaced by another miniature misfit – but not before lining his pockets well enough to pay of that credit card debt racked up at The Plaza…with plenty left over to buy a toy store or two.
