Release History:

1968 - The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit
In this heartwarming horse tale, Disney once again turned to veteran actor Dean Jones as well as director, Norman Tokar, whose resume included The Apple Dumpling Gang and Follow Me, Boys! to create a sweet story of a horse that could.

In the film, Jones is cast in the role of Fred Bolton, an ad executive who lives alone with his daughter, Helen - who has an expensive horse hobby that is eating away at their finances. Money being tight isn’t his only worry though. Fred is also unsuccessfully working on an ad campaign for a new stomach pill called “Aspercel” and the pressure is enough that an ulcer seems right around the corner. Then, reminded of his daughter’s passion, he gets an idea. He decides to purchase a horse and name it Aspercel, figuring that his daughter can ride it in exhibitions and give his fledgling new product a little free exposure at the same time. Poor Aspercel isn’t exactly what one might consider a show pony, however, and Fred dejectedly realizes that this might have been a bad idea. But Aspercel has a hidden talent, an amazing steeplechase ability and soon, Fred, Helen and Aspercel are packing their bags and heading to Washington D.C. for the National steeplechase competition where their homely horse heroically saves the day.

In the fine tradition of Disney live-action family films, The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit, isn’t one of the most memorable in the bunch. Still, it touched the hearts of many with a love of horses and remains a charming film in their catalog.
