Petula Clark...vocals
Petula Clark was that rare pop act that achieved initial fame during the post-Beatlemania years and managed to follow it up with a long and esteemed entertainment career. Her mature style was catchy enough for teens, but classic enough for their parents, earning her a series of Top 10 hits around the world, and becoming one of England’s most successful female vocalists.

Clark began singing at age 7, and hosted Pet’s Parlour ,her own radio show and later a TV show, at age 11. She started recording children’s music in the ‘50’s, but by the end of the decade she had begun performing rock tunes like "Romeo". Her breakthrough happened in 1964 when she teamed up with producer/songwriter Tony Hatch and recorded “Downtown.” This song about city life made her an international pop star, winning a Grammy award and topping both the U.S. and European charts.

“Downtown” was the first of many hits for Petula Clark. She followed it up with “I Know A Place,” which also won a Grammy and went to #3. After releasing smooth sounding, yet catchy songs like "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" and the #1 smash "My Love," she put out one of her most popular hits, "Don't Sleep In The Subway." Her Top 10 single, the Italian-influenced “This Is My Song,” was written by Charles Chaplin and used in his last film, A Countess From Hong Kong.

In 1968, Clark hosted a television special called Petula, for NBC, as well as appearing on a regular variety show for the BBC.   She also appeared in films, including the musical Finian's Rainbow and Goodbye Mr. Chips

The ‘70’s saw Petula Clark continuing to record, doing cabaret shows, and making appearances all over the world. She also continued to do television,  appearing on The Muppet Show in 1980. She did a lot of theater work as well in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s, drawing rave reviews for her performance as Maria in The Sound Of Music, co-writing and starring in Someone Like You, and making her Broadway debut in Blood Brothers.

Petula Clark continues to be a grand dame of the entertainment world, going on six decades of an impressive show business career. She recently played Norma Desmond in the long-running hit Sunset Boulevard, and in 1998 released a new album called Where The Heart Is that included songs from that musical. There aren’t many artists who can be called legends – but Petula Clark is definitely one of the greatest.
