The best way for an American rock group to respond to the mid-60s British Invasion was to sneak aboard a ship in the harbor and dump all the tea over the side. But since that had be done already, homegrown bands decided to just go with the flow. The Beau Brummels heard the new sound, liked it and mixed it with their own version of folk and country.

Formed in by four natives of San Francisco and one Irish guy, the band worked the local club scene with their covers of Beatles songs until they were offered a record contract and released their first single. "Laugh Laugh" became a Top 20 hit and the Brummels were on their way.

The next single from the band was "Just a Little," which rose quickly in the Top 10 and led to two albums in 1965, titled Introducing the Beau Brummels and Beau Brummels Vol. 2. If you have such a cool name, it pays to mention it as much as possible.

The albums featured that catchy English beat, mixed with folk and R&B elements and were big successes. Two more albums followed in the late 60s, Triangle, a critical and commercial hit, and Bradley's Barn, a country-flavored collection.

After the release of Bradley's Barn, the Beau Brummels split up, only to be reunited in 1974 for a brief time. The individual members of the band went their separate ways in the music business but their time together is still remembered by rock and folk fans alike.
