Shaun Cassidy...vocals
It must have been something in the genes – as the half-brother of teen idol David Cassidy, Shaun Cassidy was destined for Tiger Beat greatness.
A performer at an early age, Shaun started his first band at age 11, and by 16 had landed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records. He released his first single “Morning Girl” in 1976, and it became a major hit in Europe. Cassidy’s good looks earned him coverage in teen magazines, and when his next single, "That's Rock 'N' Roll" (a cover from former Raspberries singer Eric Carmen) was released, it was another smash, this time both in Europe and Australia.
Shaun Cassidy’s big break in America came when he was cast as Joe Hardy, the teen detective on the TV series The Hardy Boys Mysteries. In an early episode of the show, he performed a cover of "Da Doo Ron Ron", which became a #1 hit when it was released as a single. Following that success, his cut of "That's Rock 'N' Roll" was re-released in the US and it exploded on the charts. His self-titled debut album, released in 1977, became the biggest selling debut of its time.
Cassidy’s follow-up album, Born Late, was released later that year, and featured the Top-10 hit “Hey Deanie,” also written by Eric Carmen. He released his third and last album in 1980, Wasp. This recording broke away from the middle of the road pop tunes he had done previously, and contained harder rocking material by Ian Hunter ("Once Bitten, Twice Shy") and David Bowie ("Rebel Rebel").
Shaun Cassidy started to focus on his acting career after 1980, and had regular roles on television shows like Breaking Away and General Hospital. In 1993, he co-starred with his brother David in the Broadway show Blood Brothers. He also developed a very successful career as a television writer and producer, creating series such as American Gothic, Roar and Cover Me. Which all proves that Shaun Cassidy was more than just another pretty face.
