Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones and Dawn Robinson were beautiful, poised and sang like nobody's business and the two producers thought they had their new group clinched. However, a student from Texas by the name of Terry Ellis impressed them so much with her vocals that the trio became a quartet, Supremes be damned.
Their first album Born to Sing came out in 1990 and did well on the pop and R&B charts. The singles from the album were considerable hits, like "Lies," "Hold On" and "You Don't Have to Worry." The album later went platinum and the industry heaped all sorts of awards on the up-and-coming quartet.
En Vogue's second album, Funky Divas, was released in 1992 and debuted at #8 and #1, Billboard 200 and Billboard R&B respectively. "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" and "Free Your Mind" spent quite a long time in the Top 10 pop charts. The album garnered more awards and many lucrative endorsement deals for the girls.
After a brief hiatus and the exit of Dawn Robinson, En Vogue enjoyed their biggest hit single to date with "Don't Let Go (Love)" which was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Set It Off. Back into the swing of things, the three ladies released EV3, Masterpiece Theater and Soul Flower.
Recently, En Vogue has been performing again with Dawn Robinson who came back to the fold for several live appearances around the country.
