MEMORIES:
“I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can, so I can…” - “Sunglasses at Night”
Only 21 years old at the time, Canadian pop star Corey Hart penned his breakthrough hit, “Sunglasses at Night.” The song - which, incidentally, was a last-minute addition - helped make his debut album, First Offense, a hit in the U.S. and his home country of Canada.
Born in 1962, Corey Hart’s earlier efforts to get signed were fruitless. After working for a while in New York, he scored a contract with Aquarius Records upon returning to Canada. He had a cool, athletic look which made it easy to turn him into a teen idol.
His follow-up album, 1985’s Boy in the Box garnered some commercial success with his highest-charted single “Never Surrender.” In 2002, he re-sang “Sunglasses At Night” for a remix version. It was the time and season, as his unforgettable breakout hit was being remixed at clubs and on the radio around the country. Hart continues to write music and lives in the Bahamas with his wife and family. (Not bad for a Canadian kid with a dream, eh?)
