Extra! Extra!  Read all about it!

While there are many choices in extracurricular activities as a student, whether in elementary, middle or high school and beyond, few offer the long-lasting benefits of being a part of a student newspaper.  Whether you were on the beat as a reporter, out on the field as a photographer, or sitting on top of the journalistic world as the Editor-In-Chief, there was always something to do at the school paper.

School papers come in a variety of formats, from smaller newsletters to big-time spreads.  Printing frequency varies – some school find it fit to print just once a month, while others are weekly.  At the college level, some papers are printed daily!  They also come in a variety of sizes, from the very large “broadsheet” to the mid-sized “Berliner,” the smaller “tabloid” and the even smaller “compact,” all chosen and designed around the content of each paper.

Student newspapers often contain a wide range of subject matter, such as assemblies, sporting events, pep rallies, Drama Club Events, local events and even the school lunch menu – anything that’s up-to-the-minute (or week, or month).  Top it off with a few choice pictures from a student photographer, maybe an Art Class Comic Strip, an editorial or two and perhaps a Man on the Street-style interview, and a school paper is born!  Hot off the presses!
