BarbieIronically, one of the best christmas presents ever also sadly marked the end of key point in my childhood...the point when you realize there is no Santa Claus and that it was all part of some complicated adult cover up scheme. I believe it was 1983, and it was so early christmas morning, I don't even think it was completely light outside. I toddled down to the living room in my pj's with sleepy wondering eyes and was greeted by the sight of THE biggest wrapped christmas present ever. This was before you started to snoop for your presents, so honestly I had NO idea what was inside. All I knew was this thing was bigger than I was.On the package was a note from "Santa" saying how he hoped I would enjoy this present because I had been such a good little girl. I remember thinking at the ripe ol' age of 6 or so, "Santa's handwriting looks an awful lot like Grandma's" (who had raised me and been "Mommy").Still, I don't think I entirely put it all together, or maybe didn't want to as I unwrapped that huge present with shaky little hands.I finally unveiled what I consider one of the best Christmas presents ever: The Barbie Dream House. It was a little girl's dream, too, complete with "glass" patio doors, and the decorative wrought "iron" front doors, built in flower beds, sky lights, the epitome of luxury. Of course Santa delivered all the furniture Barbie needed that year too (apparently she had been really good that year as well) by bringing the hand pumped trademarked pink whirlpool bath, vanity, kitchen, canopy bed and everything else a little girl desires. Big girls, too for that matter! All I know is my grandmother must have worked really hard that year to make that Christmas the best ever... Gold Stars: 4 GOLD STARS:
