In one of the inexhaustible ways that little girls have to protect their things from the prying eyes of parents and siblings, Sweet Secrets was the perfect combination of cute doll and secret hiding place. Made by toy company, Galoob, in the mid- 1980’s, these plastic toys were just a few inches high and shaped like brightly colored little girls. But, unbeknownst to the prying fingers of little brothers, the back of the dolls opened with a latch, to reveal a secret compartment. Albeit a tiny secret compartment – the dolls were pretty small to begin with. But you could stash, jewelry, coins, notes – anything that needed to be kept out of the way of uninvited family members.

Picking up on the Transformers trend of the time, Galoob took the doll/secret hiding place concept to the next level. They next came out with a series of jewelry/animals to take advantage of more of the things that girls generally liked. They created a line of necklaces, bracelets, and barrettes that turned into animals – Tu Tu Toucan and Star Jumper (that one’s a pony) were two of their popular brands.
